Heavy smoke is coming out of a Pierce County home as firefighters work to put out the fire Tuesday.

Central Pierce Fire & Rescue crews are on scene near 22nd Avenue East and Military Road East, the department posted on Facebook at 12:08 p.m. The house is unoccupied.

The intersection will be blocked for an extended period of time. The public is asked to use alternate route to avoid the area, the post said.
