Fire reported at Conway SC Middle School. Traffic is delayed in area as crews respond

City of Conway Fire Department responded to a fire at Conway Middle School on Friday, according to a Facebook post.

The fire happened about 1:20 p.m. at 1104 Elm St.

The post said, “At this time, we believe all staff and students in the building are accounted for and safe.”

Conway Police Department was assisting with traffic in the area as parents came to pick up their children.

Horry County Schools spokesperson Lisa Bourcier said by email that the fire started in an exploratory classroom

The fire alarm sounded at Conway Middle School around 1:15 p.m. and all students and staff were safely evacuated from the building, she said.

The Conway Fire Department is on scene and afternoon dismissal will take place on a regular schedule. “Due to heavy traffic, we ask for patience while parents are picking up their children, and bus riders will be released at normal times,” Bourcier said.
