Fired Grey’s Anatomy Intern Checks Into Chicago Med
From one hospital to another: Sophia Ali, who recurred on Grey’s Anatomy as intern Dr. Dahlia Qadri, has joined Chicago Med in the recurring role of Dr. Zola Ahmad, TVLine has learned.
The new Emergency Department resident often acts impulsively in ways the hospital doesn’t approve of in order to help her patients. Ali makes her debut in this Wednesday’s episode, titled “This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us,” in which “Crockett clashes with Med’s new eager first-year resident,” per the official logline. Zola is the second doc to join Chicago Med this year: Blindspot vet Luke Mitchell was introduced in last week’s Season 9 premiere as ED attending Dr. Mitch Ripley. The new additions come in the wake of several series-regular cast member exits during Season 8, beginning with the departure of Guy Lockard, who played ED pediatrician Dr. Dylan Scott. Original stars Brian Tee (aka Dr. Ethan Choi) and Nick Gehlfuss (Dr. Will Halstead) also said goodbye to the show after eight years. (Get scoop from the #OneChicago showrunners on what’s behind the recent bout of turnover in the Windy City-set franchise.)
Ali appeared on Grey’s Anatomy during Seasons 14-16 as Dr. Qadri, who had a crush on Jackson and got fired by Bailey for mouthing off. Following that, the actress starred on Prime Video’s YA series The Wilds for two seasons as plane crash survivor Fatin.
Chicago Med airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC. Hit the comments with your thoughts on the ED’s new doc!
