Fireworks, parades, games: Here’s how to celebrate Fourth of July in, around Wichita

This Fourth of July, Wichitans will have more ways to celebrate than just fireworks. With parades, concerts, pool parties and more, there is no shortage of events and activities to mark the holiday.

Wichita

Monday, July 3

Wind Surge Independence Day Celebration, 6:35 p.m., Riverfront Stadium, 275 S. McLean Blvd. The Wind Surge game starts at 6:35 p.m. as it finishes a six-game home series against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Afterward, Riverfront Stadium will host fireworks. Tuesday, July 4

Independence Day Commemoration, 9 a.m., Veterans Memorial Park, 345 N. Riverview St. At the American Revolutionary War Memorial in the park, a ceremony will include a bugle rendition of the national anthem and “Taps,” a rifle salute, a color guard and more. Seating will be limited. More information can be found at the Wichita Veterans Memorial Park website.

Riverside Annual Breakfast Fundraiser and Children’s Parade, 9 a.m., Central Riverside Park, 720 N. Nims. The Riverside Citizens Association will host this annual event. From 9-11 a.m., a breakfast spread will include donuts from Jack’s Donuts. The parade of decorated bicycles begins at 11 with line-up at 10:30. The event also includes a children’s character meet-and-greet with Party Rockerz ICT and feeding time at the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit, 700 N. Nims, following the parade. Tickets to the breakfast are $10 for adults, $5 for children and free for kids three years or younger. For more information, visit the Riverside Citizens Association on Facebook.

Red, White & BOOM, 6 p.m., Riverfront Stadium, 275 S. McLean Blvd. While the Wind Surge plays out of town, Riverfront Stadium and Wichita Park and Recreation will host a free Fourth of July community event. Concessions will be open inside the stadium while the Wind Surge game in Tulsa will be streamed to the jumbotron. A fireworks display will be at 9:40 p.m. The Hyatt Lawn will host a number of food trucks such as Busy B’s and Smokin’ Diner, with the lawn available to fireworks spectators wanting to set up there. McLean Boulevard will be closed from Maple to Douglas from 5 p.m. until the end of the event. For more information on event details and road closures, go to wichita.gov/boom.

After the Fourth

B-29 Doc Warbird Squadron Week, B-29 Doc Hangar, Education and Visitors Center, 1788 S. Airport Rd. Formerly known as the Wichita Warbird Weekend, B-29 Doc Warbird Squadron Week runs from July 5-9, featuring tours of aircraft and cockpits. Of the eight new and historic aircraft on display, four will be available for flights. The even runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Derby

Tuesday, July 4

42nd Annual Firecracker Race, 4-mile race at 7:30 a.m., 1-mile race at 8:30 a.m., High Park, 2801 E. James St., Registration is $40 plus a sign-up fee. Register at www.derbyks.com/july4.

“American Dream” parade, 10 a.m. Parade starts at Panther Stadium, 925 E. Madison Ave., goes west down Madison, south down Georgie, and east along Market until participants return to the stadium.

Fireworks display and food trucks, 6 p.m. with fireworks starting around 9:40 p.m., High Park.

Haysville

Tuesday, July 4

Parade, 8-9 a.m. with line-up starting at 7:30 a.m. The parade will start at 900 W. Grand at Haysville Middle School and end at 600 W. Grand at Haysville United Methodist Church. Afterward, watch a cornhole tournament at 9 a.m. at Haysville Activity Center, 523 Sarah Lane.

Water carnival with games and prizes, 1-6 p.m., Haysville City Pool, 525 Sarah Lane. Attendees can swim for free, but Haysville Recreation requests that each participant bring one non-perishable food item for the Haysville Food Bank.

Haysville’s 4th of July celebration, throughout the day, Riggs Park, 700 Sarah Lane. Haysville Recreation will offer activities and events. A food court will be open from 6-10 p.m. with a free concert by the band Bad Mother Hubbard at 7:30. Around 9:45 p.m., Riggs Park will have a fireworks display. Take a lawn chair. Park City

Tuesday, July 4

Parade, 9 a.m. with check-in for participants at 8 a.m., Park City Senior Center, 6100 N. Hydraulic St. The parade will go east on 61st Street before turning north on Hydraulic Street, ending at McLean Park.

Daytime activities at Hap McLean Park, 6801 N. Hydraulic Ave. There will be a car show at the community building (winners announced at 2 p.m.), a pet show at 11 a.m. and bingo at the Senior Center from 1-3:15 p.m. To sign up for the parade, pageant, pet show and other events, visit parkcityks.gov.

Concert and fireworks, Hap McLean Park, 6801 N. Hydraulic Ave. Marc Baker & Untamed Country will perform from 7-9:30 p.m., followed by a fireworks display presented by Crosswinds Casino at 10 p.m.
