The first trailer for a new Godzilla movie, Godzilla Minus One from Japanese production company Toho, has just been released to a flurry of excitement from fans.

The movie is entirely unconnected to Warner Bros' Monsterverse, which is made up of the likes of Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong.

The story of this particular entry, which is Toho's 33rd Godzilla movie overall, follows citizens living in post-war Japan, which is in dire straits. The official synopsis teases that Japan's economic state has been reduced to zero after WWII, but Godzilla's arrival puts the country into "a negative state."

The tantalising trailer for the film, which will be in Japanese, shows Godzilla wreaking chaos upon the citizens of Japan. One shot shows the monster's foot crushing hundreds of people while another shows a ship being flung across a city.

One of the most striking images in the trailer is a shot when the enormous Godzilla swims underneath a huge military ship. Moments later, the ship is destroyed in the water and everyone is dead.

The final shot of the trailer is perhaps the most iconic of all, however. It shows the almighty creature letting out that signature roar as the trailer teases audiences with its release date — December 1.
