FKA Twigs Reveals Bleached Eyebrows ‘Mishap’ Once Led to Burning All the Skin Off Her Forehead
Twigs told the story behind her braided hair look in her "Life in Looks" video alongside her 'British Vogue' cover debut
FKA Twigs has had a lot of memorable fashion and beauty moments.
One of them, though, has quite the story behind it — and it was actually quite painful.
In a new "Life in Looks" video for her British Vogue cover debut, the singer-songwriter, 36, revealed the story behind her braided and beaded fringe at the Barclaycard Mercury Prize nominations launch in 2014.
“At the time, I’d actually been experimenting with bleaching my eyebrows, and I’d had an accident and I’d burnt off all the skin on my forehead,” Twigs said.

“My hairstylist Soichi [Inagaki] and I came up with this idea that I would have beads hanging really low to cover it up, so I could just be gorgey from here down,” she recalled with a smile. “Actually I think that some of the greatest fashion moments come from a mishap or a mistake, and it turns into a happy accident.”
“It’s good that I burnt off my eyebrows,” she added.
Celebrating her first Mercury nomination at the time, Twigs sported a Balenciaga ensemble that consisted of a gray jacket over a black jumpsuit.

The star’s comments about her look come after she responded to her Calvin Klein advert being banned in the U.K. after complaints over nudity. In January, the U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority claimed that one of three posters from the April 2023 campaign portrayed Twigs as “a stereotypical sexual object.”
"I do not see the ‘stereotypical sexual object’ that they have labelled me,” Twigs responded in an Instagram post in January. “I see a beautiful strong woman of colour whose incredible body has overcome more pain than you can imagine,"
Meanwhile, Twigs is set to star in the upcoming remake movie, The Crow. This comes 30 years after the original in 1994, which starred the late Brandon Lee.
Lee died at the age of 28 in 1993 after he was accidentally shot on set. The original and remake films are based on James O’Barr’s 1989 graphic novel. Twigs will play the role of Eric’s late fiancée, Shelly.
Meanwhile, Eric is resurrected from the dead to fight for justice against the people who killed him and Shelly.
The Crow will be released in theaters June 7.
