Flooding possible Saturday and Sunday, NWS warns, as heavy rain covers the Triangle

Turning the furnace back on was probably not at the top of your Memorial Day weekend to-do list, but with high temperatures expected to barely make it to 70 on Saturday or Sunday you may need at least a space heater.

And a rain coat. Definitely a rain coat.

The rain that’s been in the forecast is supposed to start this morning and not let up till sometime Sunday. And it’s likely to continue at least intermittently through Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for central North Carolina warning of possible flooding through Saturday night. A half inch to one and a half inches of rain are expected today.

The risk of moderate to heavy rain continues Sunday, with another half inch of rain possible.

The high temperature Saturday is only supposed to reach 61, and Sunday may touch 70.
