Florida Mom and Daughter Lucky To Be Alive After 'Freak Accident' With Flying Tire, Police Say
The loose tire bounced over the median and crushed the car's windshield and roof
A Florida mother and her school-aged daughter are lucky to be alive after what police have described as a “freak accident” that involved a loose tire from another vehicle slamming into their windshield and destroying their car.
The pair were traveling on U.S. 19 near Clearwater, Fla., at about 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 13 when a vehicle in an oncoming lane somehow lost one of its tires that bounced over the median and crashed through the woman’s windshield, according to the Clearwater Police Department.
Most of the damage occurred on the passenger side of the car, shattering the windshield and sending shards of glass throughout the interior of the vehicle, and crumpling the roof. Photos of their nearly-destroyed car reveal just how close the pair came to serious injury or worse.

"Thankfully, no one was seriously injured or killed," police said.
Police added that "the child was in the backseat and no one was riding in the front passenger seat, which sustained much of the damage from the tire."
