Former East York mayor Willis L. Blair dead at age 90

Willis L. Blair, the former mayor of East York, has died at the age of 90.

Blair died Saturday, according to an obituary notice posted online.

The obituary says that Blair is survived by his wife, Elsie, as well as his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His funeral will take place Wednesday at the Heritage Funeral Centre on Overlea Boulevard.

Blair spent 18 years on East York Council. He also served as the chair of the Liquor Licence Board of Ontario.

Two current members of Toronto City Council tweeted over the weekend, after hearing of his passing.

Coun. John Parker called Willis "a true and genuine East York hero," while Coun. Denzil Minnan-Wong said he was "honoured to have him as a friend and supporter."
