Fort Langley restaurant damaged in fire

A sushi restaurant in Fort Langley, B.C., was damaged in a fire early Sunday morning.

Crews were called to the Sushi Ichi restaurant, at 9145 Glover Road, just after 2:30 a.m. PT.

"Flames were tearing up the back of the restaurant, which is directly beside a timber-framed building," said B.C. Almanac host Mark Forsythe, who witnessed the fire.

Fire crews arrived on scene within minutes and managed to contain the blaze.

The restaurant is next to the historic Fort Langley Community Hall and across the street from a retail and residential unit.

The Fraser Valley community lost its only grocery store in a fire in January 2011, started during a bungled robbery.

Officials are still investigating the cause of Sunday's fire.
