Fort Worth Fire Department mourns death of captain at age 57

Fort Worth Fire Department Capt. Thaddeus “Thad” Raven has died, the department announced this weekend.

Raven, 57, spent 25 years of his life working for the Fire Department. Officials and members of the public remember Raven as a thoughtful and engaged leader who made great strides in diversifying the department’s ranks as its head of recruitment.

“Captain Raven’s legacy with the Fort Worth Fire Department will not soon be forgotten,” the Fire Department wrote in a Facebook post Sunday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.”

As a result of Raven’s work, the most diverse class of recruits in the department’s 129-year history graduated in 2022, the department said.

The department did not specify the cause of his death. Details about a memorial service will be released at a later date.
