Will Fort Worth-area grocery stores be open for regular hours on Labor Day? What to know
Labor Day is Monday, and if you find yourself looking for that last-minute side dish or spirit during the three-day weekend, you’re in luck.
Labor Day became a national holiday in 1894 at the push of labor activists, who fought to recognize the contributions of American workers. The holiday is held on the first Monday of September each year.
Some of the major grocery stores in the Fort Worth area will be open on Labor Day, including H-E-B, which is growing its presence in North Texas.
Stores operating at normal hours this Labor Day include:
Tom Thumb
Kroger
Target
H-E-B
Walmart
Central Market
Whole Foods
Costco Wholesale locations will be closed Monday. Sam’s Club will open at normal time for its Plus and Club members but will close early at 6 p.m.
While most major area grocery stores are open on Monday, not everything is “business as usual” on Labor Day.
All United States Postal Service offices will be closed Monday, along with most banks and stock markets.
Other shipping services like UPS and FedEx will also not operate.
Because Labor Day is a federal holiday, government offices for Tarrant County and most Fort Worth city offices will be closed Monday. These closures include all city libraries, which will reopen Tuesday.
Labor Day is a district holiday for Fort Worth ISD, and all schools will be closed.
Most community centers, the Haws Athletic Center, late-night programs and the Log Cabin Village will be closed Monday. The Fort Worth Animal Shelter’s Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center and North Animal Campus will also be closed.
