Fresno pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle. She was an unhoused woman, cops say

A female pedestrian died after she was struck by a vehicle Saturday in central Fresno.

It happened around 6 p.m. in the area of Fresno Street and Cambridge Avenues.

Fresno police said a driver was traveling southbound on Fresno Street when he collided with an unhoused woman who was in the roadway.

The woman was transported to Fresno Community Regional Medical Center but succumbed to her injuries.

Police were trying to determine the cause of the collision.

It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol played a role. The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation, police said.

The roadway was expected to be closed for a few hours.
