We're just weeks away from the final season of Game of Thrones, so any insight into what might happen – no matter how tenuous – is like gold dust.

It comes as no surprise, then, to see fans up in arms over a seemingly innocent cast photo that's done the rounds on social media.

In the picture, our favourite Game of Thrones actors are pictured gathered at Sevilla FC.

It's not all of our favourites, though, as three very important people appear to missing from the shot: Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and Cersei Lannister.

It didn't take long for eagle-eyed fans to speculate over what their absence might mean. So, does this photo reveal that Jon, Dany, and Cersei die in Thrones' final episodes – or that they're the only ones who live? Or, y'know, were they just feeling camera shy?

Well, don't read anything into it. Despite a number of reports claiming it's a new photo shared by Tyrion Lannister actor Peter Dinklage (who isn't on social media), the photo actually dates back to May 2018 when the final season was still in the middle of filming.

As well as searching for missing characters, Game of Thrones fans are also on the hunt for six replicas of the Iron Throne scattered across the globe.

Ever dreamed of sitting on the Iron Throne and ruling over the Seven Kingdoms? You better get a move on – there are only 12 days of the #ForTheThrone event left.

Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere on April 14, 2019. The show airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Season 7 is now available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray or digital download.
