Gamecocks flip former Texas A&M receiver commitment Debron Gatling on signing day

Three-star Class of 2024 wide receiver Debron Gatling is headed to South Carolina.

Gatling — a 6-foot, 180-pound Alpharetta, Georgia native — announced a commitment to the Gamecocks on Wednesday at Milton (Ga.) High School on the first day of the early signing period for football.

He chose South Carolina after breaking a pledge to Texas A&M earlier this month. Gatling received offers from 44 schools, including Florida, Nebraska, Ohio State and Louisville.

He has 33 career touchdowns and more than 3,000 yards receiving, his coach said Wednesday ahead of Gatling’s public decision. He finished the 2023 season with 84 catches for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Gamecocks quarterback commit Dante Reno posted a message tagging Gatling on X (formerly Twitter) Sunday, which Gatling reposted with a saluting face emoji.

“Going to see you real soon in Orlando @bigsgbron!!!” Reno wrote. “Would be even better to see you down in COLUMBIA#24EverToThee

Among Gatling’s career accomplishments are an Under Armour All-American honor and the title of Region 6-AAAAAAA Player of the Year in the state of Georgia.

Gatling joins four-star receiver Mazeo Bennett in USC’s 2024 class. They’ll enter a wide receiver room that lost a lot of production from the 2023 season without Xavier Legette (exhausted eligibility), Antwane “Juice” Wells (transferred to Ole Miss) and O’Mega Blake (transferred to East Carolina).
