Going on ‘big unplanned break,’ legendary band cancels major Boise summer concert

Boise summer concert season has arrived.

Which means, yep — so have the inevitable cancellations.

In a blow to classic-rock fans, Neil Young and Crazy Horse will not perform July 28 at the Ford Idaho Center Amphitheater as planned.

The legendary rocker made the announcement with his fellow band members in a message posted Wednesday at the Nampa venue’s website.

“The Love Earth Tour has been a great experience for us so far. Great audiences and music. We have had a blast.

“When a couple of us got sick after Detroit’s Pine Knob, we had to stop. We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break. We will try to play some of the dates we miss as time passes when we are ready to rock again! We know many of you made travel plans, and we apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for your understanding and patience.

“Health is #1.

“We want to stay and do more shows and more albums for you ... and for us.”

Tickets purchased by credit card will be refunded within a few business days, Ford Idaho Center General Manager Andrew Luther said. If you paid by cash, head to the box office.

The decision to go on hiatus during the tour appears to have affected 13 shows in the Pacific Northwest and Canada.

Boise fans can only hope that Young, 78, means what he says about returning soon. This would have been his first Idaho show in nearly a decade. Young performed in Idaho at a sold-out Outlaw Field show at the Idaho Botanical Garden in 2016. Prior to that, he gigged at the sold-out Morrison Center in 2007.
