The Community Foundation of P.E.I. is now accepting applications for grants from charities for small projects to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday.
The foundation is offering grants of between $100 and $5,000, and has been getting enquiries from a broad range of groups.
"We've had enquiries from Indigenous groups who are looking at putting submissions forward. We had enquiries from groups representing youth and youth-led organizations across the province. We've had enquiries from arts and culture. We've had enquiries from the Francophone community," said foundation president Steve McQuaid.
McQuaid said the foundation decided to make the grants smaller to encourage a broad range of groups to make proposals.
Second round of grants next year
The first deadline for applications to the Community Fund for Canada's 150th is the end of October.
Groups who have proposals approved in the first round of applications will get the money in January 2017. The money is provided by the federal government and the Community Foundation of P.E.I.

A second phase of applications will likely start in January.
