Grammy Awards 2023: The night's big winners

History was made at the 65th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday as Beyoncé won her 32nd award, giving her the most Grammys of all time.

Beyoncé had the most nominations this year with nine in total for her album Renaissance. She picked up Grammys for best R&B song of the year, best dance/electronic album, best traditional R&B performance and best dance/electronic recording for Break My Soul.

The show opened with a colourful performance by Bad Bunny, who is up for album of the year for Un Verano Sin Ti — the first Latin album in this category — and an early award for Harry Styles.

Styles picked up the award for best pop vocal album for Harry's House.

Viola Davis also achieved EGOT status, winning a Grammy for best audio book, narration, and storytelling recording for her memoir, Finding Me.

The Canadian wins

Other early winners included Burnaby, B.C.-born singer Michael Bublé, who picked up a Grammy for best traditional pop vocal album for Higher and Toronto rapper Drake's win for best melodic rap performance for his feature on Future's Wait for U.

Montreal conductor and pianist Yannick Nézet-Séguin picked up two awards for best opera recording for Blanchard: Fire Shut Up In My Bones and best classical solo vocal album for Voice Of Nature — The Anthropocene.

While Vancouver-born jazz artist Kris Davis and fellow Canadian Matthew Stevens also won a Grammy for best jazz instrumental album.

On Sunday, Tobias Jesso Jr. of North Vancouver was recognized for his work on Harry Styles's Harry House, which picked up album of the year. Jesso Jr. co-wrote the track Boyfriends. Earlier during the pre-broadcast ceremony, Jesso Jr. won songwriter of the year, non-classical.

Other wins include Toronto producer Boi-1da for his work on Kendrick Lamar's Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers and Beyoncé's Renaissance. Montreal producers Demy & Clipz also won for their work on Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti.
