Grip Sustained “Extensive Bodily Injuries” In Accident On ‘The Pickup’ Set, According To Fundraiser

A fundraiser launched by family and friends of a hospitalized crew member injured during an accident on the set of The Pickup shares more details on his well-being.

The GoFundMe page identifies the crew member as Marvin Haven, a dolly grip of nearly three decades. Deadline has confirmed that the page, which was created by Sean Fisher, is a legitimate fundraising effort.

So far, Haven has not been identified by Amazon MGM, IATSE, or OSHA. The latter two organizations are currently investigating the accident. At the time of publication, the fundraiser had neared $50,000 out of its $100,000 goal.

According to the page, Haven has suffered “extensive bodily injuries, which includes broken ribs, multiple fractures in his neck and back, a shattered scapula, punctured lung, and a skull fracture which will require facial reconstructive surgery.”

“We are so grateful and blessed that our beloved friend is still alive, but his road to recovery will undoubtedly be long, difficult, and faced with unimaginable challenges,” the post continues.

The accident happened on Saturday, April 20 during an action sequence with the 2nd unit team, according to the studio. Since it occurred with the 2nd unit team, production on the film has not stopped and director Tim Story was not around this part of the set at the time of the accident, sources told Deadline.

“Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the crew were injured as a result,” said a spokesperson for the studio. “We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering.”

A video of the accident obtained by the New York Times shows an armored truck rolls on top of the SUV, with both vehicles fully flipping before landing upright. Deadline understands there were several crew members injured during the accident, though the extent of their injuries are unclear. Their identities have also not been made public.
