Group set to bring back live ‘thrilling experience’ to Modesto’s Gallo Center
The Modesto Symphony Orchestra brings back its concert-to-film program, performing the score to “The Nightmare Before Christmas” as it’s shown on the big screen. There’s also a host of other entertainment set for the Modesto region from Oct. 28 to Nov. 3.
MSO’s “Nightmare”
The Modesto Symphony Orchestra presents Tim Burton’s film “The Nightmare Before Christmas” on the big screen at the Gallo Center, accompanied by Danny Elfman’s score played live by the MSO. Jack Skellington, Halloween Town’s Pumpkin King, visits Christmas Town and looks to shake up the holidays. Halloween costumes are encouraged.
“We last performed this concert in two sold-out performances in 2017, and it was such a thrilling experience to see our audiences be swept up in the magic of Danny Elfman’s score,” Caroline Nickel, MSO president and CEO, said in a press release.

Ramana Vieira
Ramana Vieira presents a “Journey to the World of Portuguese Fado” at the State Theatre. Vieira is a northern California native whose parents immigrated to the United States from Portugal, where her grandfather was a well-known musician and composer. She also is a pianist and songwriter who has composed her own original fados.

Marty Stuart
Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives bring their music to the Turlock Community Theatre. Stuart is a five-time Grammy winner and a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. His teenage years on tour with Lester Flatt in the 1970s were followed by six years in Johnny Cash’s band in the 1980s before Stuart became a solo artist.

Maui recovery fundraiser
The Makanaaloha Group presents “Malama Lahaina” at the State Theatre, a fundraiser to aid Maui’s recovery after recent fires. This event features Hula and Tahitian dance performances as well as a Hawaiian-style dinner.

Bohemian Queen
The Queen tribute band Bohemian Queen brings the icon group’s music to the Gallo Center. Even though this LA-based group formed only three years ago, it already performs to audiences in sold-out theaters across the country with its “letter-perfect tribute to Queen,” according to the Gallo Center website.

All Hallows Faire
