Gwen Stefani 'Can't Listen' to Certain No Doubt Songs Without Feeling Sick: 'I Almost Throw Up in My Mouth'
"It's just like, 'Oh my God.' It just brings you right back," said Stefani ahead of No Doubt's Coachella reunion in April
Gwen Stefani can't stomach some of No Doubt's music — but not because she doesn't like it.
The superstar opened up in a new Audacy Check In interview about how she avoids listening to certain No Doubt songs because of the memories they hold, explaining that some of the band's material makes her feel sick.
"I can’t listen to a lot of the songs because they speak so clearly to me," Stefani, 54, told KROQ’s Klein/Ally show on Audacy. "And it’s like, you know, you have regret and mistakes you’ve made. Most of the songs are about that."
She then revealed one No Doubt song in particular that's not easy to revisit. "If I do ‘Ex-Girlfriend,’ even when I say it, I almost throw up in my mouth," added the Grammy winner. "It's just like, ‘Oh my God.’ It just brings you right back."
Stefani then recalled memories of the group's early days. "There's lots of times when you’d be on tour doing the repetitive songs, but it’s not the songs. You’re not in the songs. You’re there with these new people every night, and they’re receiving the songs," she said.
"That's where you get the energy, and you kind of relive that moment with them. It's very interesting. I can't believe that I was chosen to be able to have this life, because it's such an incredible way to express yourself but also get to know yourself," added the "Hollaback Girl" singer.

“I don’t remember them, no, not at all. I don’t! I think I’m going to have to learn probably like, eight or nine [songs]. One of the first songs I ever wrote was called ‘Different People;' we’re doing that,” she said on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
At that point, she quickly put hand over her mouth, feigning shock and saying “I’m not supposed—”, as the audience cheered for the 1995 song from the band’s Tragic Kingdom album.
“We might do that one,” Stefani said. “I’ll just have to have them sing it for us!”
