Haltom High School on secure hold; district says everyone safe, no immediate threat

Haltom High School is on a secure hold, meaning classes will continue but nobody is leaving the building, after an incident on campus prompted an increased police presence at the school, according to a Birdville ISD spokesman.

The Haltom City police announced on Twitter around 2:05 p.m. Monday that the school was on lockdown “out of an abundance of caution,” but later updated to say it is a hold status.

Police said the situation was resolved without incident but that the secure hold status would continue until school administrators released students.

A police spokesperson could not be immediately reached for more information.

Mark Thomas, a spokesman for the school district, said everybody is safe and there is no immediate danger to students or staff. He said that an event on campus triggered the secure hold, but that he could not immediately share any other details about what that event was.
