Hats off for a job well done, says Yetman

Bay Roberts council had plaudits aplenty to hand out to Town staff last week for their work helping to make some recent events successful.

Workers at the Bay Arena were commended for their efforts during the Bay Wheels Car Show which took place on June 1st and 2nd. Mayor Walter Yetman visited the show to speak on behalf of the town and pick out the car he liked best. His choice was a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach. He congratulated everyone involved for a job well done, noting the show raised money for charity.

Once the car show concluded on Sunday, June 2nd, staff had to swiftly prepare for recitals by Catherine's Dance Studio the following day. That included putting together a new stage.

"It's all braced on the bottom," said councillor Dean Franey, "with safety railing going all the way around it."

The Town has ordered a ramp that will wrap around the back of the stage for future events.

“That's a wonderful piece of infrastructure that we bought, a good investment and will be used for many, many years to come and, most of all, it's safe,” said Mayor Yetman."

Franey noted the stage stayed secure during the dancers’ recitals.

Director of Tourism Ron Delaney, along with his staff and some volunteers were also up for applause, in this case for the Newfoundland and Labrador Tulip Festival, which the town hosted June 8-9.

There was a big turnout for breakfast, which had two different serving times, and the trolleys which carried people to the various tulip displays had to make three tours, Yetman said.

"I think there was 30 on a trolley, and they were all sold out, and they had a wonderful time,” he noted. “So, hats off to everybody."
