Hay River RCMP respond to two 'high risk' incidents within an hour

Hay River RCMP responded to two separate "high risk" incidents involving firearms in the community Sunday morning.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., police got a report in the community of an assault in progress. According to the report, the suspect was assaulting an individual while armed with a firearm.

Police arrested the suspect at a Hay River residence without incident, seizing a shotgun in the progress.

Less than an hour later, police received a call of a distraught individual with a firearm in a Hay River home. The individual was safely taken into RCMP custody, and police seized two firearms from the residence.

RCMP say charges are pending in both incidents.
