Heavy rainfall could bring flooding to Windsor-Essex
Environment Canada says heavy rainfall is on the way for Windsor-Essex, bringing with it the potential for flooding.
The weather agency says the rain could start tonight and last into Friday morning with between 15 mm and 25 mm in the forecast.
"The rain may fall heavily at times. Localized flooding may occur in areas of poor drainage. The frozen ground will have a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall," Environment Canada said.
A special weather statement is in effect in Windsor-Essex, as well as Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton.
The Essex Region Conservation Authority has also issued a statement over potential flooding.
"People are encouraged to take extra caution and avoid areas where flooding is occurring as well as rivers, streams, and shoreline areas during significant rainfall and wind events," the authority said.
"The combination of slippery banks and fast moving water can be dangerous. Standing water can also present its own unseen hazards."
