Heidi Gardner has insights on what Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce like to eat

The Chiefs brought in three everyday people last summer and gave them an opportunity to see how quarterback Patrick Mahomes spends a day.

Well ... it wasn’t just your average Joe or Josephine.

“Saturday Night Live” star Heidi Gardner, actor/comedian Desi Banks and UFC star Megan Anderson were recorded at the Chiefs’ facility for a fun video.

The trio put on the full Chiefs uniform, took snaps under center, spent time in the training room, fielded media questions and were fed like Mahomes, the three-time Super Bowl MVP.

That Chiefs video didn’t spend a lot of time on what Gardner, Banks and Anderson were fed. But Gardner shared a bit more about trying to eat like Mahomes while speaking with former Patriots star Julian Edelman on the “Games with Names” podcast.

“Well, so Mahomes eats a lot in a day,” Gardner said. “I did a day as Patrick Mahomes at Arrowhead (last) summer and like his breakfast — and maybe you eat like this as well — but it was like 12 eggs and sausage and like a muscle protein max shake. And then I feel like he had like steak, fish and chicken at lunch and then steak, fish and chicken again at dinner.

“I mean, it was an incredible amount of food. I learned that.”

One thing Gardner didn’t eat: Mahomes’ favorite condiment.

“I hate ketchup,” Gardner noted.

Here is more of Gardner, the “Big Slick” co-host talking about an attempt to eat like Mahomes and spending the day in the Chiefs’ facility last year.

Kelce’s go-to snack

Gardner also talked about tight end Travis Kelce’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” and how she loaded up on his favorite snack.

“When Travis hosted, I was asking him I’m like, OK on game day, what are you eating? You know, he’s like, Uncrustables all day long. So before, on Saturday, I had like four boxes of Uncrustables delivered to his dressing room, and he told me, ‘I’m pounding those.’

“I was like, yeah, this is a game and I just knew he’d be awesome because also all week long, you’re getting adjustments. You’re being told, look at these (cue) cards, those cards, and it all seems overwhelming. But I was like, he’s used to this, I’m guessing he probably gets adjustments from coaches all week long and then has to make those for the game and he’s playing on a live game every week, just like ours is.”

There was one skit that had Kelce in bed with Gardner, and Edelman asked how she liked that.

“I mean, it was honestly cool,” Gardner said with a big laugh. “It was cool. What was cool was that a Chief was hosting ‘SNL.’ That’s what was cool. And I That’s how I felt the whole week. Like my whole family came out. I threw a tailgate in my dressing room. That’s all that it was for me was that it was cool.”
