Hey weatherbot, what's the latest in Nain? Twitter account shares runway conditions

If you're curious about the weather in Nain, there's a Twitter account for that.

The account @NainWxPxBot posts a new image of the airstrip every 20 minutes between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., displaying the latest conditions.

The high-tech imaging system gives real-time updates on the YDP airstrip, thanks to a new service implemented by Josh Pamak.

For travellers to Pamak's hometown on the north coast of Labrador, the weather can really impact flight plans. The forecast often leaves passengers stranded and relying on social media to see the latest weather conditions.

Pamak realized he had the knowledge and experience to make that situation a little bit easier. He even had a convenient location available -- his father's house is across the road from the airstrip.

"I have an electronics and automation background so I said, what better way to put a small little service into my community and throw something up that will automatically take a picture and tweet it," he said.

An easy solution

Pamak hopes people who are travelling to and from Nain will now log on and check the Twitter account to see the current conditions, instead of asking others over social media or waiting to hear the latest forecast.

"If you get to the airport in Goose Bay or you're waiting to go at 7 a.m. and the weather is bad, you can check every 20 minutes to see if conditions are improving," he said.

Photos are individually captioned with the time of day they are captured to have a visual representation for the latest conditions.

Pamak hopes other communities along the coast will implement similar setups.
