New high-end sushi experience to open in Sacramento this week. Here’s what is in store

Sacramento’s fine dining scene will see a new addition this week with the opening of Okesutora.

Executive Chef Hieu Phan, who formerly headed Nobu in Palo Alto and Las Vegas, will lead the omakase-only restaurant, according to a news release.

It opens on Wednesday at 1801 L St., Suite 70, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. The restaurant shares a residency with a line of midtown eateries, including the recently opened Pazza Notte, The Rind and Saigon Alley.

Omakase, which translates to “I leave it up to you,” is a form of Japanese dining where guests allow the chef to decide what to prepare, according to the Michelin Guide.

The reservation-only concept will feature an immersive dining experience, a 14-course chef-tasting menu, a sushi selection, cold and hot dishes, and dessert. Menus are seasonal, highlighting local and global ingredients, including fresh fish flown in from Japan biweekly.

Mymy Nguyen, owner of Okesutora and neighboring Saigon Alley, said in the release that she is excited to introduce midtown Sacramento to omakase dining.

“We love that Okesutora will add another element to Sacramento’s ever-burgeoning restaurant scene,” she said. “We can’t wait until you experience the meticulously presented meal.”

Representatives at the restaurant did not immediately respond to The Bee’s request for comment.

Pricing

It is $195 per person for the omakase experience and an additional $90 for drink pairing, according to the website.

Reservations

You can start booking reservations online. The restaurant offers two seatings per day, with lunch at 5 p.m. and dinner at 8 p.m.
