High school football: An ‘angry’ Clovis North dominates Memorial in revenge game
Points after points seemed to be the theme for the Clovis North high school football team on Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Broncos also had revenge on their mind.
Just ask McKay Madsen and Jackson Cinfel who each ran for three scores to power The Bee’s third-ranked Clovis North to a 62-8 victory over No. 6 San Joaquin Memorial in a running clock in the fourth quarter.
Statement sent?
Cinfel thinks so with a confident tone.
“We wanted to prove that we’re No. 1 and we can make it to state,” he said. “We can beat all these teams.”
He added that “I just wanted to get that ball and score as much as I possibly could. Get that ball, touchdown every single time.”
The only problem in Friday’s game? No shutout after the Panthers blanked Clovis North 34-0 last season.
The Panthers scored their lone touchdown and added a two-point conversion in the third quarter.
Madsen said a look at last season’s game on film fired them up all week.
“It just angered us,” he said. “Coaches, it fired them up. It is such a terrible feeling knowing that we got shut out last year. That just fueled this entire offseason in preparation for this game. The (offensive) line was so ready to come out and do that thing and they did. It’s all the line, all glory to them. Me, Jackson and Josh, we just run behind them and they make us look good.”
Despite rolling up 60+ points, Broncos coach Mike Jacot said they made some mistakes during the game.
He hopes they learn from those mistakes before next week’s game against Redwood.
“I’m not satisfied very easily,” he said. “I felt like we had some miscues down the stretch. I’d like to see a little more focus, but a great team win. Proud of our coaching staff. This is where we want to start. We just got to build off it.”
