High school football rankings: Where does Escalon rank after beating one of state’s best?

In a week when Stanislaus District schools were featured in nearly 20 games, no team made more noise than Escalon.

One year after taking state football power Buchanan into overtime, the Cougars took down the Bears in the game’s final seconds. A 32-yard field goal from Talan Reider with six seconds left gave Escalon a two-point road win. The school moved up one spot along with Patterson and Downey, which both won to advance to 2-0.

Vote for the Week 2 Player of the Week

Patterson beat Mountain House thanks to great rushing performances from Jeremiah Lugo and Coby Joseph and a pair of first-quarter pick sixes. Downey’s starting quarterback Carson Lamb missed the Knights game against Lodi after hurting his finger, but receiver and former JV quarterback Joseph Ramirez led them to victory with a pair of touchdown passes.

Turlock drops to fifth after suffering its second loss this season.
