High school junior sensation, who has KU on his list, dominates Peach Jam AAU tourney
Cooper Flagg, the top-ranked player in the recruiting class of 2025 by Rivals.com and On3.com (No. 2 by ESPN.com and 247Sports.com), who has Kansas on his list of prospective schools, has put up some incredible numbers with KU coaches in attendance the past few days at the Peach Jam Nike EYBL tourney in North Augusta, South Carolina.
Flagg, a 6-foot-8, 195-pound, 16-year-old junior-to-be from Montverde (Florida) Academy — he plays summer ball for Maine United — scored 34 points, grabbed 20 rebounds, blocked 10 shots and dished five assists in a Peach Jam semifinal win over Team Griffin on Saturday afternoon.
On Saturday morning, Flagg scored 37 points with 12 rebounds, 10 blocks, six assists and two steals in a Maine United victory over NH Lightning.
Flagg had scored 38 points with 16 rebounds, 11 blocked shots and six assists in a win over ProSkills on Thursday at Peach Jam.
Coaches from KU, Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Michigan and UConn scouted Thursday’s game, according to rivalshoops.com. His list also includes Kansas State, Villanova, Iowa, UCLA and others.
Flagg reported receiving a scholarship offer from KU on May 2.
There have been reclassification rumors surrounding Flagg, a Newport, Maine native, who appears ready for major college ball with two seasons of high school left to go. Duke is considered the early favorite by some analysts, mainly because in June of 2022 he referred to Duke as his “dream school.”
“Cooper Flagg is an elite prospect. He’s a mobile and uniquely talented power forward with an advanced game,” reads the scouting report at NBADraftRoom.com. “At about 6-8 and maybe still growing he’s got good size and moves very smoothly on the court. He’s got great court awareness and always seems to be in position to make plays. Rebounds the ball well. Uses his size and length and can get off the ground. Has great touch on his jumper, on floaters and a knack for putting the ball in the basket. It’s early but at this point he looks like a likely one-and-done first rounder.”
Daniel Olinger of SI.com wrote that Flagg is a “one of a kind, generational prospect.”
Sunday’s 16-and-under Peach Jam final will match the top two prospects in the class of 2025.
Flagg’s Maine United team will meet Cameron Boozer’s NightRydas Elite squad (based in South Florida) at 1 p.m. Central. Boozer, a 6-9, 225-pound junior-to-be from Columbus High School in Miami, Florida, and son of former Duke player Carlos Boozer, is ranked No. 1 in the class of 2025 by ESPN.com and 247Sports.com and No. 2 by Rivals.com and On3.com.
Earlier in the week at Peach Jam, Flagg had 21 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, two steals and two blocks in a 73-65 win over Boozer’s NightRydas Elite team. Boozer had 22 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks.
KU is also recruiting Flagg’s Montverde teammate Liam McNeeley, a 6-8, 210-pound rising-senior small forward who is ranked No. 8 by Rivals.com and 247Sports.com and No. 11 by ESPN.com and On3.com. McNeeley is originally from Richardson, Texas. He has a final list of KU, Indiana, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama and Michigan.
On3.com’s Joe Tipton observed coaches from KU, Duke, Rutgers, Indiana and Auburn watching senior prospect Dylan Harper score 26 points with 11 rebounds and five assists in a game Friday at Peach Jam. Those schools happen to be his five finalists.
Harper, a 6-5, 180-pound senior-to-be from Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, New Jersey, is ranked No. 1 in the class of 2024 by Rivals.com, ESPN.com and 247Sports.com.
“The game of basketball is so natural for Dylan Harper. He has such a good feel for the game. He used his strength to find his way to the rim and scored the ball in a variety of ways, while also remaining unselfish and getting his teammates involved,” wrote Joe Tipton of On3.com.
Coaches from KU, Houston, USC and other schools watched class of 2025 standout Brayden Burries score 27 points and grab 11 rebounds in a Strive for Greatness victory at Peach Jam, according to On3.com.
“Burries is a strong bodied guard with shotmaking and playmaking ability. He is an efficient three point shooter but can also get to the rim and finish through contact,” wrote Tipton.
Burries, a 6-4, 185-pound rising junior from Roosevelt High in Corona, California, is ranked No. 18 in the class of 2025 by 247Sports.com and No. 44 by Rivals.com.
Coaches from KU, Iowa, Northwestern, Cincinnati, Auburn, Baylor, Texas, Duke, Texas Tech, Purdue and others watched games of Flory Bidunga, 6-9, 220-pound rising senior from Kokomo (Indiana) High School on Friday and Saturday at the Adidas 3SSB tournament in Rock Hill, South Carolina, On3.com reported.
Bidunga, who recently visited KU, also has visited Auburn, Indiana, Michigan State, Michigan, Purdue and Florida. He is ranked No. 4 in the class of 2024 by Rivals.com, ESPN.com and 247Sports.com.
Coaches from KU, Arizona, USC, Baylor, North Carolina, Kentucky, Stanford, Houston, Florida State and others watched games of the Compton Magic’s Koa Peat at the Adidas tourney Saturday, On3.com reported.
Peat, a 6-8, 215-pound rising junior from Perry High in Gilbert, Arizona, is ranked No. 3 in the class of 2025 by Rivals.com.
According to On3.com, KU on Friday also scouted an Adidas game of Southern Assault and its standout players Micah Robinson and Nic Codie. Robinson is a 6-6, 215-pound senior-to-be from Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, ranked No. 118 by Rivals.com; Codie, 6-8, 200 senior-to-be from Newman Smith High in Carrollton, Texas. He is ranked No. 57 in the class of 2024 by Rivals.com.
