High schools: Clovis West wins golf title, plus volleyball championships set
The Clovis West girls golf team are the Central Section champions.
The Golden Eagles compiled a team score of 398, but had a high score of 91, beating out Tri-River Athletic Conference foe Buchanan, which had 93 at the Ridge Creek Golf Club in Dinuba.
It was redemption time for Clovis West after they finished in second place last season behind Arroyo Grande.
Clovis West had won the section title in 2021.
Scores for the Golden Eagles include Olivia Lew 71, Lisa Shimmon 73, Sarah Feuersinger 83, Sienna Garcia 84, Emily Meisch 87 and Makenna Naoe 91.
An individual champion was also crowned at the section championships, and it was close.
Chowchilla’s Asterisk Talley shot a 67, one stroke better than Lauren Alaniz. Torrie Bowman of Clovis East was in the thick of it as well when she shot a 69.
Talley, Alaniz, Bowman qualified for the regionals, as well as Madison Dick of Buchanan, Shimmon and Mia Solano of Clovis East.
