High-speed police chase in Summerside nets man jail time

A 43-year-old man was sentenced to jail after a high-speed police chase in Summerside early Tuesday morning, according to a police new release.

Just after 3:30 a.m. Tuesday police noticed a vehicle travelling at a high speed south on Granville Street that also ran two red lights.

They tried to stop the driver, but he fled in the vehicle, leading police on a chase through city streets.

Police estimate the driver reached speeds of 140 km/h.

The driver turned onto the dead-end street Cass Avenue where he continued on through a potato field until he reached a wooded area and could not go further, say police.

The man fled the vehicle and hid in the woods where he was located.

According to the release Christopher Raymond O'Halloran pleaded guilty and received concurrent sentences of 30 days on charges of operating a motor vehicle while fleeing police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He also received an additional 10 days in jail for refusal of a breathalyzer test during a May 31 impaired driving incident. O'Halloran is also subject to a Canada-wide driving prohibition.
