Hilarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's 2 Kids: All About Augustus and George
Actors Hilarie Burton Morgan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are enjoying parenthood together
Hilarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are dedicated to their kids: Augustus “Gus” and George.
The pair — who met in 2009 through a mutual friend — live on a working farm in upstate New York with their son and daughter. While they're growing up in a rural setting that is out of the spotlight, Gus and George are still surrounded by community members who are fans of their parents’ work.
"They are so irritated when people come up to us in the supermarket and act like I'm somebody because they're like, she's nobody, we're the somebodies," Hilarie told E! News in 2023. "Like they're the stars of the show.”
Over the years, Hilarie and Jeffrey's children have come to understand their iconic roles on One Tree Hill and The Walking Dead, respectively. Despite their fame, the actors, who welcomed their son in 2010 and daughter in 2018, take a hands-on approach to parenting.

In addition to being a school representative, the Drama Queens podcast host brought her kids to their town’s first Pride celebration, which was hosted by the church they attend.
"First of all, the party was amazing! The dance floor was a multigenerational melting pot of joy and love," she wrote on Instagram. “And I feel so fortunate that the establishment we started attending back when my son was in diapers is leading the charge in our town.”
Not only does the mother-of-two work to involve her kids in their community, but she also tries to instill confidence in them, including making sure they know how loved they are.
“I make a point every day of telling my kids not only how much I love being a mom but how much I love being their mom specifically,” Hilarie told Scary Mommy in 2023.
Here is everything to know about Hilarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s kids: Augustus "Gus" and George.
Augustus "Gus," 14
Hilarie and Jeffrey welcomed their first child together, son Augustus "Gus" Morgan, on March 14, 2010. Jeffrey, with the help of a midwife, delivered their son.
The actress has given glimpses into Gus' life over the years, including his love for Elvis Presley.
"Gus went through a massive Elvis phase when he was 6. We listened to @sxmelvisradio every day. Obviously, his hair and wardrobe were influenced," she wrote on Instagram, describing his newfound love for Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 Elvis film.

The Rural Diaries author also opened up about Gus being a fan of his dad’s The Walking Dead character, Negan, and shared the sweet gesture that accompanied it.
"Our son has a Negan poster in his bedroom and a friend came over recently and he was like, 'Why do you have a poster of your dad?' " Hilarie told PEOPLE in 2023. He responded, "Because my dad's awesome."
A few years prior, in 2021, Gus even landed a role as a young walker in Jeffrey's series as his acting debut.
"My dude. Me, @hilarieburton and George THATS MY BOY!! We are super proud of Gusy Dean," the father-of-two wrote on Instagram. "Thanks to @amcthewalkingdeadand @gnicotero for making a dream come true… a damn hoot!"
Like both of his parents, Gus has an interest in the arts and has starred in their local community theater productions, including A Christmas Carol.
Hilarie and Jeffrey have fostered his passion by being front row at his shows, and in August 2023, the Lethal Weapon actress took Gus on a mother-son trip to North Carolina, where they attended the outdoor drama The Lost Colony.
“My dude loves theater and so it was fun to go on the backstage tour (thank you to our guides!) where he was allowed to put on Andy Griffith’s armor from his time in the production,” she shared on Instagram. "Pretty soon this teenager will be too cool for his ol mom, so I'll take these dates any time I can get em. Xo."
Stardom aside, Hilarie is involved in her kids' day-to-day activities, like participating in their school's parent-teacher-student organization.
"I think by investing my energy in my kids' school and me coming into their world, and making them the central figures, they see how much energy that myself and the other mothers are putting into it and a kid needs that," she told E! News. "A kid needs to know that they're the hero of the story."
George Virginia, 6
Hilarie and Jeffrey welcomed their second child, a daughter named George Virginia Morgan, on Feb. 16, 2018. The second-time mom described their daughter as their “miracle baby” and opened up about the difficult journey of expanding their family.
“It took a long time for Jeffrey and I to have this baby. The first time I got pregnant, it took a year and a half,” she penned on Instagram. “I surprised him on Christmas with baby Seahawk booties. We cried. We celebrated. We picked out names. And we lost that baby.”
Hilarie continued, “More losses followed, and as so many couples know, it was heartbreaking. It still is heartbreaking. If anything, my wish is that she would restore hope for others."
Just like her brother, Jeffrey delivered George with the help of a midwife. “The first time I didn’t know, I was shocked that I was part of it. I thought I was going to hold the leg, tell her to hopefully breathe and I wasn’t ready when I took my position,” he told PEOPLE in 2018. “This time I was a little bit more prepared and got in and got her out immediately.”
Jeffrey is a proud girl dad and often posts sweet snaps of him and George together, which is no surprise to Hilarie. “Going through my camera roll, and damn near every picture is just these two in love,” Hilarie wrote on Instagram. “They are the same person. So naturally, I adore the both of them.”
George — who has been involved in ballet and has even played dress-up with her mom’s pink wig from Hilarie's cameo on The Walking Dead — doesn’t mind rolling up her sleeves and working on the family's farm.
She can frequently be seen in the background on her parents’ Instagram pages tending to the animals on the property, which include cattle, donkeys, dogs, chickens, ducks and alpacas.
“The farm is no joke. It’s work,” Jeffrey told the New York Post in 2020. “I’m in charge of all the animals, and Hilarie is in charge of the gardening.”

It’s not all work for George, though; she and the former MTV star make time for some mother-daughter shopping, too. Prior to starting school in 2023, Hilarie and George hit the mall to expand her wardrobe for the new year.
“We strolled. We hit the food court. We got new sneakers. Clothing selections were a mix of unicorns, goth girl and velour track suits,” the actress wrote on Instagram. “She came home and did a fashion show for dad and Gus. Mall culture is due for a renaissance! Morgan girls are here for it!”
