Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager know they can't be in two places at once.

On the Tuesday, June 4 episode of Today with Hoda and Jenna, the co-hosts opened up about the guilt they experience when missing their kids' events.

“My daughter had something today at school that I missed,” Kotb, 59, says. “And I was thinking about that, missing things, because I have missed things. Because our shift is so weird and they do all the things in the morning.”

“No, I know ... I’ve missed everything,” Bush Hager, 42, replies.

Kotb agrees, saying, “We’ve all missed everything. But then I try to remember that our parents missed many things.”

Bush Hager then recalls advice she’s heard from psychotherapist Esther Perel.

“You don’t need to be at every single thing. When you’re with them, make wonderful memories,” she shares. “Your kids don’t remember where you’re not there — maybe y’all disagree and maybe I’m just saying this to make myself feel better — but they will remember when you make a point to be present.”

Kotb responds, “Yes! I totally agree.”

Bush Hager shares children Mila, 11, Poppy, 8, and Hal, 4, with her husband Henry. Kotb and her former fiancé Joel Schiffman have daughters Haley, 7, and Hope, 4.

Earlier this week, Kotb opened up about her upcoming move to a new home and the emotions that come with moving out of the apartment she brought both her daughters home to for the first time.

“I literally was sitting at my desk this morning, where I sit every single morning — I light a candle, I have my journal, I do my stuff,” Kotb told Bush Hager, “And I thought to myself, this is the last Monday I’ll be sitting at this desk because we’re moving next week.”

Bush Hager, immediately connected with Kotb about the emotions of relocating, sharing, “Moving is one of those things that actually is hard. There’s something about it where you’re sitting thinking about the desk, but that’s the home where you brought your babies home to.”
