Hold on to your hats! Strong winds will make their way through Waterloo region and area Friday

It's going to a very windy Friday in Waterloo region, Guelph and Wellington County.

A special weather statement from Environment Canada says winds will start off coming from the west between 30 and 60 km/h Friday morning before picking up in the afternoon. Some aras could experience wind gusts of up to 80 km/h.

"Winds will ease late tonight into Saturday morning as the low pressure system departs," Environment Canada said.

Also expect periods of rain on Friday with rainfall amounts of five to 10 mm.

The rain is expected to change to periods of snow mixed with rain in the evening.
