Hollyoaks confirms James wrote the threatening letters over Mercedes shooting
Hollyoaks has revealed the culprit behind those threatening notes James and Grace have been receiving — and it's quite the shocker.
The two have been plagued by notes at their homes this week, taunting them that someone knows that they were responsible for Mercedes McQueen's (Jennifer Metcalfe) shooting last year.
The most recent note was inadvertently intercepted by James's mum Marnie (Lysette Anthony), leading her to figure out that her son was behind the heinous crime.
In Wednesday's (February 26) first-look episode, James (Gregory Finnegan) was left with no alternative but to confess the truth to his mum when he awoke from his sleeping pill-induced stupor.
"I thought she had killed Harry," James insisted. "I know it was a terrible thing to do. Do you think I would have pulled the trigger if I'd known the truth?"
But the real bombshell arose when James remembered that he wasn't being threatened at all — he was actually the one writing the notes while under the influence of his sleeping pills!
"I know who's been sending the letters. Me," he deduced.
While his mum Marnie encouraged James to hand himself in to police over the shooting, James headed over to make things right with John Paul (James Sutton) because of the scare over Romeo's injury.
"I'm an idiot. When I have feelings for someone, I get scared," he explained.
As James sealed his reconciliation with John Paul with a kiss, he was forgetting that he'd written one more note — to Mercedes herself! This note revealed that her shooter was actually at Jesse's funeral.
"I need to find out who wrote this note," she begged Warren Fox.
Has James just unknowingly tipped off Mercy to his identity?
Hollyoaks airs Mondays through Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm.
