Hollyoaks' Ste to face a huge backlash after court case outcome

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks' Ste Hay is ordered to leave the village for good next week after narrowly avoiding a prison sentence.

Ste faces the fury of Cindy Cunningham when there's no justice over the tragic death of Ella Richardson.

Earlier this year, Ste came clean about how he'd killed Ella by unknowingly knocking her over in a road accident. He'd kept the horrible truth secret for several weeks but was finally ready to do the right thing.

As Ste prepares to face court next week, his husband James Nightingale plans a day to remember, as he's conscious of how they could soon be torn apart.

Ste ruins the day when he finally confides in James about his recent dodgy dealings with Warren Fox. James is horrified, especially when he learns that this could make Ste a target for the unknown culprit who recently shot Warren.

As Ste then looks to the future, he admits to James that he's scared of what lies ahead for him in prison. He takes off his wedding ring, encouraging James to start a new life without him around.

James is heartbroken over Ste's decision, while Leah and Lucas are equally shocked when their father warns them both not to visit him when he's in jail.

Ste's sister Leela Lomax tells James that he shouldn't give up on his marriage so easily. James agrees and heads to court, just in time for Ste to hear his fate.

In a surprising turn of events, the judge points out an issue with the crash investigation. Although Ste has been honest about causing Ella's death, his conviction is deemed unsafe, and he's released.

The outcome crushes Cindy, who'd wanted Ste to face the consequences of his actions. Cindy's brother Tom is left to comfort her outside the court, while James leads Ste away from a press photographer.
