Home Economics Cancelled at ABC
In the end, the numbers apparently just didn’t add up for Home Economics. ABC has cancelled the underrated sitcom after three seasons, TVLine has learned.
The Topher Grace-led ensemble comedy wrapped its abbreviated third season in January. At the time, EP Michael Colton expressed optimism about the series’ fate, telling TVLine, “We’re optimistic. We know the network is very happy with the show. And we have a very devoted fan base. We’re just waiting for the right people to weigh in. It’s a process. But we’re planning to come back. We have a lot more stories to tell. We’re hopeful.”

Home Ec was one of two remaining bubble shows at ABC, along with The Rookie: Feds, which still has not been renewed or cancelled. ABC delayed making a decision on Home Ec for months, a delay that was only worsened by the dual Hollywood writers and actors strikes. Fans still had hope, though, after ABC extended the cast’s options in June.
Home Economics‘ third season averaged 2.9 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), which was right on par with its Season 2 numbers. Out of the five comedies that ABC has aired this TV season, it ranks last in total audiences and tied The Goldbergs and Not Dead Yet for third (last) in the demo.
Along with Grace, the cast included Caitlin McGee, Jimmy Tatro, Karla Souza and Sasheer Zamata.
