Homeless Woman Lay Dead In McDonald’s For Hours While Diners Ate Beside Her

A homeless woman lay dead in a McDonald’s restaurant in Hong Kong for hours while diners ate next to her, unaware she had passed away.

The woman, in her 50s, was found at a table in the McDonald’s on Saturday morning.

She entered the restaurant 24 hours before it was discovered she was dead. For the last seven of those hours, she was slumped at a table.

The woman had been a regular visitor to the restaurant in the Ping Shek district, according to the South China Morning Post.

Many homeless people go to 24-hour restaurants for somewhere to stay in Hong Kong, with those going to McDonald’s dubbed “McRefugees”.

Wendy Lam, senior director of McDonald’s Hong Kong, said: “McDonald’s Hong Kong would like to express our grief over the unfortunate incident at our Ping Shek Estate restaurant.

“We welcome everyone to visit our restaurants any time. In order to provide a pleasant dining environment, we would not disturb our customers, but our service will be offered promptly upon request.”

Police said customers ate their meals next to the woman without noticing anything was wrong. She had only ordered a glass of water.
