Hong Kong protesters fed by Prince Edward Islander

A Prince Edward Islander who has been living in Hong Kong for the past decade has been supporting democracy protesters there by bringing them food and drink.

The protesters are upset at Beijing's plans to require approval of candidates for future leadership elections.

Andrea McCarvill has been bringing drinks to the protesters daily and overnight she was with the crowds looking for change.

"It's really very peaceful, and that's what so surprising when you see these massive numbers of people," said McCarvill.

"Coming from Charlottetown, for me, when I see all these people together and it's so peaceful and so calm, it's really unbelievable. So today we did see a few more middle-aged people but the last two evenings when I've been out it's been all young, under 25-years-old mostly."

McCarvill expects the crowds could grow over the next few hours as this is the first night of a two-day holiday in Hong Kong.

The protesters are continuing to act in a peaceful manner, she said, and recently police have backed off of aggressive tactics used earlier to try breaking up the crowd.
