Hutch woman who pushed grandson out of way and her husband are in ICU, fundraiser says
A Hutchinson couple hit by a car while leaving the Kansas State Fair on Friday are in the intensive-care unit at Wesley Medical Center, according to a fundraiser set up Monday to help with hospital costs.
Their elementary-aged grandson, who was also hit, was taken to the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center that night before being released.
“Luckily Kristen (Musick) pushed her grandson out of the way and he walked away with only a concussion and some scrapes,” the fundraiser says.
The fundraiser, which was widely shared on social media, says Michael and Kristen Musick have “several serious injuries that are going to take a lot of time and medical help to heal.” The fundraiser is meant to help with the “financial burden that comes with these extended hospital stays, medical treatments and travel costs for the family.”
Just after 10:30 p.m. Friday, the Musicks, their daughter and their two grandsons were leaving the fair when three of them were hit by a 22-year-old Hutchinson man driving a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo near 300 E. State Fair Road, which is on the north side of the property, according to the fundraiser and a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper.
The Musicks were taken to the Hutchinson hospital before being brought to Wesley.
A KHP spokesperson said the next day that the driver stayed on scene and there were no signs of impairment. The spokesperson did not respond to additional questions Tuesday about whether the driver was cited for anything.

“Truly sweet and wonderful people, with kids who are just as amazing,” a family member who shared the fundraiser on Facebook said. “Any help is wonderful and greatly appreciated. Regardless, please keep them ... and their whole family in your prayers as they go through this extremely emotionally, mentally and physically taxing time.”
