Hwy 118 crash sends 3 to hospital, ends in charges against 2 men

A man from Truro and another from Millbrook face almost a dozen charges between them, after a car crash that sent two women and an 8-month-old child to hospital last night in Dartmouth.

Halifax Regional Police say just before 6 p.m. an SUV that was swerving through traffic and struck a Jeep on Highway 118. The crash sent the Jeep into a ditch, two women and an infant were inside the vehicle.

The baby has since been released from hospital, but the 38-year-old woman who was driving and a 66-year-old are still receiving treatment.

Police accuse the men of switching places after the crash. The men then allegedly drove away, they were stopped by police shortly afterward while in the inbound lane on Highway 118.

The 23-year-old from Truro is facing charges of:

- Criminal negligence causing bodily harm

- Impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm

- Failure to remain at the scene of an accident

- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm

While the 25-year-old from Millbrook is facing charges of:

- Impaired operation of a motor vehicle

- Refusing the breathalyzer

- Failing to remain at the scene of an accident

- Criminal negligence causing bodily harm

- Breach of court ordered recognizance

- Breach of probation

- Driving while disqualified

Both men are due in court in Dartmouth later today to face the charges.
