Several news outlets received reports from sources who claim the star’s temporary blindness was a common occurrence caused by botched eye surgery, while another suggested it was due to a recent herpes flare-up in her eye.

The mixed reports prompted the singer to take matters into her own hands and set the record straight on her latest health troubles.

“Just so you know the real truth. I had an awful experience last week and I went blind in my right eye and my left eye went blurry,” Mel B wrote to her more than 1.4 million followers. “Even though the stupid press said I’m ok and this has happened before, just to be clear I was NOT ok and this has NEVER EVER happened to me before...”

The Leeds native went on to discredit sources who alleged to have insight into her condition, calling the reports from those claiming to be close to her “BS.”

“I was actually in a lot of pain and very very scared,” she explained, before thanking the specialists who ultimately diagnosed her with two inflammatory diseases that can destroy eye tissue.

The singer, best known as “Scary Spice,” revealed she had been diagnosed with iritis in her right eye and uveitis in her left, and had been put on “heavy duty” eye drops and medication to help ease inflammation.

According to the Mayo Clinic, iritis is a common form of uveitis, a general term that refers to a group of inflammatory conditions that can affect the middle layer as well as different parts of the eye.

While the exact cause of uveitis and iritis are unknown, possible causes include injury to the eye, infections (including sexually transmitted infections), genetic and autoimmune conditions and certain antiviral medications.

Although possible to gradually develop these conditions, they often happen quickly, and present with eye redness, discomfort, sensitivity to light, blurred or decreased vision as well as dark floating spots in your vision known as “floaters.”

Despite the health scare, Mel B told fans she is on the mend but will need to wear an eye-patch for the next three to four months while she recovers.

“My only problem now is I have to find a very cool Scary eye patch,” the star joked. “Does anyone - apart from Madonna- know where I can get one?”
