All About Iman and David Bowie's Daughter Alexandria "Lexi" Jones
Iman and David Bowie welcomed their daughter Alexandria "Lexi" Jones in 2000
Iman and David Bowie's love lives on through their daughter, Alexandria "Lexi" Zahra Jones.
The supermodel and singer met on a blind date in Los Angeles in 1990, and "it was love at first sight" for Bowie. "It took me a few months but I got there," Iman later told PEOPLE.
The couple married in Florence, Italy, in 1992, and they welcomed their daughter Lexi in 2000. Iman and Bowie, born David Robert Jones, were together for almost 24 years before his untimely death from cancer in 2016.
While they valued Lexi's privacy and typically didn't speak about her in interviews, the pair gave a glimpse into their home life shortly after she was born. At the time, they told Hello! about how happy they were to welcome Lexi into their lives.

"This has to be the happiest of times in my life," Iman said. "Alexandria has been the force around whom everyone has gathered. And my soul feels complete." Bowie added, "I can't better that. That seems about perfect really."
Here's everything to know about Iman and David Bowie's daughter, Alexandria "Lexi" Zahra Jones.
She was born in 2000
Iman and Bowie celebrated the arrival of their daughter Lexi on Aug. 15, 2000, in New York City.
At the time of her birth, PEOPLE reported that Lexi weighed 7 lbs., 4.6 oz. Bowie's publicist said, "David assisted in the delivery and cut the umbilical cord."
Her name has a special meaning
Shortly after Lexi's birth, Iman and Bowie spoke to Hello! for what Iman called Lexi's "first and last interview." Bowie told the outlet about the meaning behind his daughter's name — a name he had considered from the moment he first met Iman.
The couple went over several name options, but they didn't take some into serious consideration until they knew they were having a girl.
"The very first names we picked were Alexandria and Zahra," he said. "Then we went through a cycle of maybe another 20 or 30 alternatives." The day before her birth, they decided on their original choices.
Bowie explained that the name Alexander had "always been a favorite" of his. "I can only ask you to believe that when Iman and I talked about names, she suggested that if it was a girl then it should be Alexandria, after the Greco-Egyptian city," the singer said. "She had no idea how close it was to my own choice."
He added that Zahra was Iman's original name, but it was changed at the last minute. "It's the Arabic form of Sarah and depending on where you go for a definition you'll find some of the following: inner light; luminous; fair and beautiful; blossoming; or even shining," he said.
Lexi is an artist
Lexi shares some of her art on her personal Instagram account, and she has a separate account dedicated to her work. The projects consist of bold colors and abstract characters, which are available for print on notebooks, bags and clothes.
"Art has been a rock in my life for as long as I can remember," she wrote on Instagram in 2021. "I took art classes as a kid ... I however didn’t become more serious about art and didn’t start refinding and finding my style until I was in my mid teens."
Lexi continued, "I developed a deeper passion, and knew that I wanted to create and share my pieces with the intent to inspire and push others to create their own. ... Art is able to evoke so many emotions, questions and reactions, which I personally think is incredibly powerful."
That same year, Iman also briefly talked about her daughter's art in an interview with Harper's Bazaar.
"David was a painter; my daughter is a painter," she said. "I've never painted in my life, so I've taken it up. I learnt that I don't have to be good at something to start doing it. Just get out of your own way, go for it."
She's not interested in modeling
Though she has a supermodel as a mom, Lexi doesn't plan to follow in her footsteps on the runway or in front of the camera — a decision Iman supports.
In a 2018 interview with Porter, Iman said that after she posted 18 photos of Lexi on Instagram in honor of her 18th birthday and "every agency, every designer" offered to work with her.
Iman's response was swift. "I said, 'No, she doesn't,' " she recalled. "I know why they wanted her to model — it's because she's David Bowie's daughter."
Iman encouraged body positivity for Lexi
Speaking with PEOPLE in 2021, Iman opened up about how she was mindful when discussing body image in front of Lexi.
"It starts with women and it starts with young girls," Iman said about messages surrounding the topic. As for her approach, she revealed that she "never — no matter how I felt about myself — said in front of her, 'Oh, I've put on weight.' "
Years later, Lexi reminded Iman of her own words. "She said to me after [the pandemic] and I put on eight pounds, I said, 'I can't fit in my pants.' She said, 'Buy a bigger pair,' " Iman recalled. "Problem solved."
She has two older siblings
Although Lexi is Iman and Bowie's only child together, they were already parents before her arrival.
Bowie and his first wife, Angie, had their son Duncan Jones in 1971. He has since gone on to become a director, screenwriter and producer. Duncan also has two children with his wife, photographer Rodene Ronquillo.
Meanwhile, Iman and her first husband, former NBA star Spencer Haywood, welcomed their daughter Zulekha Haywood in 1978. Like Lexi, Zulekha lives outside of the spotlight, but she shares parts of her life on social media, including pictures of her own family, food and trips.
She pays tribute to Iman and Bowie
Amid photos of her art and daily life, Lexi also posts photos of her parents and recalls fond memories.
In September 2022, she shared a throwback video with her dad, in which she sits on Bowie's lap while they sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" together. "My wizard of oz," she wrote in the caption.
The year prior, Lexi wished her mom a happy Mother's Day with an older picture of the pair hugging. "Appreciation to my mutha. Love you to bits," she wrote.
She has a tattoo for her dad
Two years after Bowie's death, Lexi got a tattoo honoring her father and his legacy in January 2018.
Her tattoo is a moon with an intricate design with the words, "Daddy xx" and the years of his birth and death, "1947-2016."
Iman also marked the anniversary with a tattoo on her ankle. She got a Bowie knife — from which her late husband took his stage name — that reads "David" on the handle.
"You will always be part of us," Iman captioned photos of the ink on Instagram. Lexi also shared a snap of her tattoo with the message, "Love you."
