At the weekend, Peanut – the social network for women to connect across motherhood – shared a short film highlighting how desperately lonely those struggling to conceive can feel during a celebration like Mother’s Day. But the feelings of heartbreak and helplessness can be a daily affliction for many, and especially so during times of literal isolation – like now.

Created in association with The Fertility Network (the UK’s biggest fertility charity), 'The Silent Struggle' film expands the narrative around motherhood from the inclusive perspective of those grappling with fertility challenges. Because the script for many of us starts way before a positive pregnancy test.

It was praised for its raw and relatable approach, and demonstrates how the network can share stories of hope and connectedness for women at all stages of motherhood, even while practicing social distancing.

To keep the conversation going during this challenging time, Peanut is sharing a ‘behind-the-scenes’ in conversation with the crew themselves, which proves to be just as poignant:

All involved have experienced the widespread impact of infertility. The film director and DOP are a married couple currently on their IVF journey from a known donor; the stylist had many rounds of IVF and miscarriages until she was blessed with two boys through IVF; the sound recordist has twins conceived through IVF and the make-up artist has endometriosis of which infertility is a common symptom.

It serves as a reminder that you’re not alone; in both infertility and isolation. Those of us struggling might share an overarching goal, but being a mother is not one thing. And there is understanding, support and advice available to all.
