Olivia Palermo and her husband Johannes Huebl celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in high style!

The fashion maven, 38, and the German model, 46, marked the milestone with a lavish, two-day celebration in Baden-Baden, Germany, last week, joined by 64 of their close friends. Palermo told PEOPLE the event was "a celebration of love with our chosen family."

Huebl added, "Everyone loved the idea of celebrating 10 years. [It's] such a great moment to throw a party for us and our friends in a fashionable manner."

For their stay in the scenic spa town, the couple chose the Villa Stéphanie Spa Suite at the Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, which they first visited back in 2012, two years before their 2014 nuptials. Palermo explained how they landed on the perfect venue for their anniversary bash.

"When first thinking about this event late last year, we were considering the usual places: Lake Como, the French countryside, Puglia, Italy, which we love," she said. "At some point in mentioning this to a friend, she brought up Brenners Park, which Johannes and I had been to years ago together. The hotel is part of the Oekter Collection, which we love, and it kind of all just naturally came together from there."

The festivities kicked off on Friday, June 28, with an elegant cocktail party on the hotel's lawn, followed by dinner at the Wintergarten Restaurant and an afterparty at Fritz & Felix Restaurant and the Oleander Bar.

The celebration continued on Saturday, June 29, with a luncheon at Brenners Lounge at Iffezheim Racecourse. Guests later gathered at Ebanat at Kopp Winery for an evening soirée.

"One thing we definitely agreed on was that we wanted to do the bigger, more formal affair the first night rather than the more traditional way of doing things with a welcome party," Huebl said. "Then this way, everyone can just be relaxed the rest of the weekend and enjoy themselves."

Von Rock Events and florist Blumengalerie Knorr helped create the perfect ambience for all of the events. Palermo told PEOPLE that "attention to detail" was a top priority in planning their special weekend. "I wanted every element to be perfect and contribute to the larger story we were trying to tell," she noted.

"I am a very visual person and all about storytelling," she continued. "Being in Baden-Baden, I wanted to play off of the setting. It is the beginning of summer, so the season was super important to determining the overall decor and vibe."

The couple's guests arrived to the outdoor cocktail reception via a path along the Oos River, and were greeted with glasses of Bollinger champagne. They were then led inside for dinner at the Wintergarten, where one long table was set and decorated with moss, votives, florals and cherry blossom arrangements.

"Draping overhead lined with lights created an atmosphere that got moodier as the sun set," Palermo said.

The dinner menu — curated by Chef Stefan Naatz of the Brenners Park-Hotel Culinary Team — nodded to Baden-Baden's wellness culture with "locally-sourced ingredients and lighter but satisfying dishes."

After the meal, the party hopped over to the adjacent Fritz & Felix, which was filled with paradise palms and deep-hued floral arrangements for the occasion. While the champagne continued to flow, everyone mingled and let loose.

"Our DJ, Dany Devenyi, had everyone dancing until the sun came up," Palermo recalled.

At the racecourse the next day, guests sipped Bollinger rosé and enjoyed a lunch prepared by Brenners Park executive chef Sebastian Haverkemper while they watched the running of the horses.

"I grew up riding, so this was another special touch for our guests that spoke to something personal to us," Palermo told PEOPLE.

The anniversary weekend capped off at Ebanat, with sweeping views of the vineyard. "Chef Stefan Schmidt and the Ebanat Culinary Team treated us to the most delicious menu that is literally farm-to-table with wonderful wine pairings from the vineyard," Huebl said. "It was the most amazing finale to a weekend we didn’t want to end."

Fittingly, the two style influencers put on a veritable fashion parade throughout their anniversary weekend. For Friday's cocktail party and dinner, the City alum wore a striking Giambattista Valli Haute Couture N°25 white silk cloqué dress featuring guipure lace scalloping and a silk duchess fabric top embroidered with a crystal chevron.

She turned up the sparkle for the afterparty, donning a Bronx and Banco black sequined halterneck gown with a white pointed collar.

At Saturday's luncheon, Palermo opted for another Giambattista Valli Haute Couture N°25 look, a green strapless "Anis" silk taffeta draped dress with a silk duchess bow at the waist. She went for a bridal-inspired moment for Saturday's dinner, wearing a Giambattista Valli Haute Couture N°25 white sequin-embroidered lace bralette and skirt, topped with a tulle and silk chiffon draped cape.

The Italian designer spoke to PEOPLE about the opportunity of supplying Palermo with three looks for her anniversary weekend.

"This special moment for Olivia is everything that I love because I don’t really do bridal dresses — I design celebratory, party dresses — and her anniversary is a celebration of the love she shares with Johannes," Valli said. "There are so few people like her that have such precise taste and create such an atmosphere around them and get exactly what I envisioned when designing each of the dresses she chose."

Palermo accessorized her various looks with jewelry by Pasquale Bruni, Vita Fede and Sillam 1835, as well as shoes by Dior, Birdies and Casadei, the latter of which created a custom pair of Blade C+C heels with her and Huebl's initials and their anniversary date embossed on the soles.

As for Huebl, in a sentimental detail, he wore a bespoke tuxedo look with a shawl-collar dinner jacket by Marc Anthony, the same Hamburg-based tailor behind his wedding day ensemble. "It was really nice to have that full-circle moment," Huebl said.

His anniversary weekend wardrobe also featured pieces by Brunello Cucinelli and Thom Sweeney.

Palermo and Huebl — who first met through mutual friends at a movie screening in 2008 — said "I do" in an intimate ceremony in Bedford, New York, on June 29, 2014. Ten years later, the anniversary fête "picked up where our wedding day left off and was the party we never had," Huebl told PEOPLE.

"[It was] a weekend to long be remembered," he declared.
