Iqaluit man charged after brawl
An Iqaluit man has been charged after police say he used a small knife and a vehicle to harm another man.
The charges stem from Wednesday when a taxi driver was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with another Iqaluit man.
The altercation began when the city’s Laundromat owner asked the taxi driver to move his vehicle, according to the owner of the taxi cab company.
"I believe that fists were flying and at some point my driver allegedly used his vehicle inappropriately, shall we say. Tried to hit the owner of the dry cleaners'," said Craig Dunphy, the owner and general manager of Pai-Pa Taxi.
Dunphy said the driver has been fired.
Abdullahi Omar, 48, faces several charges in connection to the incident. He is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, one charge of operating a motor vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public, as well as possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.
Omar has been released from custody based on conditions which require him to attend court at the end of the month.
The RCMP in Iqaluit encourage anyone who witnessed the incident on Wednesday to call the detachment.
