Iranian fashion designer happy to sew new life on P.E.I.
P.E.I. Fashion Weekend is back for a third year with a focus on diversity, inclusivity and community.
Fariba Viand's fashions are just one example.
Viand took sewing and tailoring classes in her home country of Iran, helping her become financially independent.
When life in Ardabil, Iran, became too dangerous, she had the resources to find a safe place in Canada, and now P.E.I.
Viand is having her work showcased this weekend at the Confederation Court Mall in Charlottetown.

She said she misses her family and friends in Iran but is happy to be on P.E.I.
"It's a piece of heaven here with a lot of kind and friendly people and I'm so appreciative of all of Canadian and P.E.I. people to accept me," she said.
Viand creates custom designs, and is building a label under her own name.
"When I look at someone and talk with them after realizing their personality and their perspective about the work and about themselves. And I can imagine what kind of design is suitable for this person."
