ITV has had to apologise to fans after their catch-up app the ITV Hub stopped working for a lot of people.

Viewers were complaining that they weren't able to access the app, instead being stuck in a constant loop of being asked to log in and/or endless loading screens.

The official Twitter account for the service has posted a tweet reading: "Really sorry everyone, we've been having problems with login tonight.

"We've made a change for now so that you can watch without logging in. If you're using the Hub app, close and open it again. Apologies."

Despite the apparent fix to the issue, viewers stated in the replies that they were still unable to get the Hub working, with some saying they had even gone one step further and had uninstalled and re-installed the app.

The ITV Hub has also come under criticism over time from users for not having subtitles on the smart TV version of the app, for not offering live TV on all versions, and for not being available on PlayStation 4, despite its competitors (BBC iPlayer, All 4 and Demand 5) all being on Sony's console.

In regards to the last point, the Twitter account said just days ago that: "Unfortunately at this moment in time we do not have any info of if or when ITV Hub will be available for PS4 devices."

It should be noted that ITV live and catch-up is available through the Sky Go/TV from Sky apps, but that does require being a paying Sky customer.
